Course Summary: This course is designed as whole day consideration of Chronology but recognises that folk might prefer to focus on their Key Stage.
In the morning: Introduce what is Chronology and what is significant about historical chronology. Look at the challenges of introducing younger children to Historical chronology and ways to help them better develop their understanding. Using common KS1 themes look at different exercises that you might use in the classroom; then, if time, look at adapting some to suit your teaching.
Start the afternoon with considering the differences between early and later Historical Chronological understanding. Examine how the early skills form a foundation for later understanding. Look at the ‘teach it in order argument’ Review a core group of useful exercises then illustrate how they can be used with the 2014 History National Curriculum framework for KS2. Then, if time, look at adapting some to suit your teaching.
